Video Games And Consoles

Video game consoles have permanently changed the way people play today. Even the most popular sports games that were enjoyed by our fathers and mothers years ago are now available in video game consoles. The only difference? The only physical exertion that you will be doing is with your fingers. In terms of excitement, well, if you can only hear how the children of today yell while playing by teams in interactive team online console games such as the phenomenal Halo in Xbox or the amazing God of War in PlayStation; you would have never believed that it is all just video games.

Video games and consoles

A video game console is an equipment that offer interactive entertainment using a computer or a modified computer system that produces video signals on a television or a computer monitor to display the video game. The reason why this gadget is called a video game console is to distinguish this machine as something that is made exclusively for playing video games and it cannot be used like a personal computer which has a lot of other uses and functions. The video game console is like the video arcade machine and the only difference is you can change games in a video game console but the while the games in the arcade are fixed. Roughly four years ago, it has been estimated that a quarter of the general purpose power that was consumed during that year was utilized in playing using video game consoles.

The video game console all started back in 1972 when a guy named Ralph H. Baer invented the very first commercially usable game console – the Magnavox Odyssey. Yes, it was a smashing success and it was a gadget that you connect to the television set. And then Atari came with the very addicting Pong and the general public took more notice of the game console industry. For quite some time, Atari reigned in the game console niche releasing models after improved models of their famous game consoles. In 1980, a new trend swept the world when Atari came out with their game version of Space Invaders. In fact, so many consumers bought the Atari game console specifically because of the hit game Space Invaders and this game started to encourage other enthusiasts to create their own games and other companies to think up ways to design and market their own video game consoles.

Now, the video console is a multi billion dollar industry with big names like Microsoft and Sony and Nintendo all vying for people’s attention. The games now are more advanced and almost life-like and the way the games are being played are revolutionary. Wii has games that are so interactive you really have to move as if you are actually playing the game in reality and Xbox is coming up something more radical than that in the next months to come.
