Call Of Duty Games? Its The Incredibly Quick Time It Takes To Finish The Story Line In MW 3
What might be wrong with Call of Duty games? Nothing really. But for me its the incredibly quick time it takes to finish the story line in MW 3. You can be done it in around 20 hours, probably less.
When looking at games like Skyrim, which is essentially an FPS combined with RPG, it will take you 200 hours to finish the main story lines.
And because of its free roaming capability, and advanced AI that gives real life and randomness to NPCs, you have thousands of hours of game play waiting for you, and it is a bit cheaper than Call of Duty games.
Lets say the player in Skyrim wants to stay away from the main quest line. This is easily done. There is always something to do no matter where you go in the game.
Lets be honest. FPS games like Call of Duty games are becoming shorter. With little redesign of the game engine, honestly its a bit of a cash grab. The success of Modern Warfare has made the developers to think less about the player and more about the money. I ask the question: is Modern Warfare 3 really that different from MW 2?
Not so for Skyrim! No they care about their players. They have put out a truly innovative game building upon its predecessor: Oblivion. So why haven't they done this for MW3? I’ll tell you why
First off there are two kinds of games. Alley games, and Island games. If you look at Call of Duty games you will notice that they are Alley games. The boundaries in alley games are close, very close. In this case the player is led down a certain constrained path.
Boundaries are not immediately perceptible in Island games, and are often referred to as sandbox games, popular for RPGs. It will take you a long time to walk from one bounder to the other, and bounders are natural in nature usually a mountain.
So what am I getting at here? Its just an idea, but what if FPS games were created like Island games? This would give the player a lot more play time. It is obvious that multi-player and survival mode, is were the hours of play time can be found in Call of Duty.
But what I’m getting at is having an FPS game that empowers the player more, so the player can determine the way the game will evolve. Maybe you could call it a cross-genre RPS. Does it have to be RPG? No, but we should be able to build on your combat skills.
Don’t get me wrong. I love MW 2 and 3, and I know that alley style games heighten the drama of the game play. FPS alley style is fun. For once, it is time to start thinking outside the box.
Since the combat is still FPS, I like to play Skyrim. Make sure you get Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, and 3, as Call of Duty games are a lot of fun.
