Rock Band Teaches People How to Play The Drums
Video gaming sure have changed since the original days of PacMan and all the old favorites of days gone by. Who could have imagined all those years ago that computer gaming would be used to learn new skills?
Guitar Hero is not only a game that is exciting to play, but it has been said by Harmonix Music that if you can play the Rock Band drum set on the 'hard' setting, you can pretty much play the drums for real! But really are you really playing the drums, or just following the pattern you see on the screen? If you are able to play along with the video game, that does not translate into the real world and does not mean you will be able to play a real drum kit. The real world of drumming requires the ability to read music, which is not taught in the game; fantastic coordination and rhythm. If you can't read sheet music you will probably not be able to play real drums unless you are musically gifted and have the instincts to know what to play. Most bands these days no longer use electronic drum kits such as were popular in the 80's. Real drums give the musician more control over the volume, pitch and duration of the drum note and cymbals.
A real drummer will never need to buy Guitar Hero cymbal repair cable, as they don't have cables that are too short and breaks all the time.
Even a small drum kit is far more complicated than the Guitar Hero or Rock Band drum set. For those wanting to make the switch, I'm sure the mental image of a real drum kit is intimidating! Imagine sitting behind a huge drum set, knowing that you are responsible for setting the rhythm for your band and they all rely on you. If you are a professional you must be a super drummer, but for a beginner even the Rock Band drum kit can be too much.
Learning drumming starts with knowing have to keep the beat. If you can keep rhythm, can you play the drums? Not reality, no. Skilled drummers need to add to songs with their skills as well as just setting the beat for the band else to follow. You don't always notice the drums, but if you were to take them out of the song I think you would notice for sure!
Can GH World Tour games actually teach how to play drums? Probably not, but they can help you with the basics. Get comfortable with the drums through the Playstation game, practice counting the beat, and you are on your way to number one! Just don't forget to find a replacement Guitar Hero World Tour cable before one breaks!
