How Motion Gaming Changed My Body


My life right now is about being a student. For one of my classes I was going to have to do something and write about the results I got. We were going to do research on what happens when someone has a big event that alters their life. Many people in the class decided to do this by talking to other people. Their paper would be based on the feelings of what others went through. I decided to go another route. I decided that I would change my lifestyle. The only question was, how would I do that?

People have always told me that I am a little chubby. I did not eat well and like many college students found it hard to turn down an offer of pizza and a beer. Looking in the mirror convinced me that it was time for me to do something and that would allow me to have a topic for my research. I was going to find a fitness program to get healthy.

The key to making this change was to know what I was going to change. I was going to do it in a new way that many people tout and that is through the use of video games that involve motion control like the xbox 360 kinect or the Nintendo Wii, or the Playstation Move that seem to have become commonplace in just about anyone who has a children now have in their home and has become popular with people of all ages.

I decided to see how much help a video game could really give me. My project would be about how well this new method of fitness could actually work based on what I was able to accomplish. I would devote most of the semester to the project. I set realistic goals and hoed that I would be able to achieve them. I could not imagine all of the good things that would happen to me.

I found a fitness game for my system and started the program. My laptop gave me a place to store my thoughts and the actual results I got. The game also made a few recommendations about eating and I did some research about what a healthy diet is. Making those changes in the environment I was in was not as difficult as I though it would be. I had a meal plan that included a lot of good food. The key was knowing what to put in my body and what I should avoid. One thing I knew that would have to change is the amount of partying that I would do, but this turned out to be a blessing because it created more time for me to start using the kinect system that I had on a regular basis because I was not either hanging out with friends in a bar or sleeping off the effects of those late nights.

As the semester went on, I began to see some results. I noticed that my waist size was getting smaller. I felt more energized than I ever had. But there were other things happening. My mind was benefiting from what I was doing as well. The positive attitude I gained allowed me to go where I had been scared to go before. I met a new circle of friends who enjoyed making the right choices for their body. I was meeting more girls than ever before. I had the confidence with females that I never dreamed of. It was good to know that both sexes liked playing the motion games. It was easy to document my research. My work was as good as my body and I got an A.
