How To Cope With Loneliness; Living A Lifetime Set Free in Only 10 Days!

“Loneliness is the most terrible poverty” - Mother Teresa

There is not a soul in the world who hasn’t experienced the pain of loneliness or wanted to know how to cope with loneliness in some way or another. It is a condition, from which no individual is exempt. You can be rich or poor, young or old, loneliness can impact your life and cause incredible hurt and pain. Legendary performer, singer, and songwriter Michael Jackson understood that all too well throughout the journey of his life.

“People think they know me, but they don’t. Not really. Actually, I am one of the loneliest people on this earth. I cry sometimes because it hurts. It does. To be honest, I guess you could say that it hurts to be me.” To read more...

Like millions of people around the world, Michael Jackson never figured out how to cope with loneliness, though it wasn’t for a lack of desire to try.

When questioned how they cope with loneliness, this is how some individuals answered;

“Go to the store for groceries.”
“I make hand puppets and then play act with them.”
“Go for a walk, hiking, shopping, to a sporting event or go visit the library.”
“Being around others and doing something you’re interested in can reduce the feeling of being lonely.”
“Don’t dwell on loneliness. Discover a hobby, see a movie, watch television…”
“Just live with it.”
“Buy a dog.”
“Get involved in something for someone else.”
“Learn to play an instrument and shut the world out.”

Do you see a pattern here? They may reduce the pain of loneliness for a little while, but in a short period of time, loneliness will reappear, most likely worse than ever. Sadly, “Coping” with loneliness is exactly what most people settle for but loneliness is not what God intended for us when He put us on this earth.

“Loneliness is the first thing which God saw that was not good.” - John Milton

Why is that? Because we were created for relationships with each other and removed from the context of relationships, man’s existence loses its meaning in life. God wired within our very being an innate desire to know and be known by others, beginning with our Heavenly Father. It is our relationship with God, through Jesus Christ, that we can satisfy our deepest desire to be known by others and loved for who we are. Once we experience that kind of love, we have freedom to love people as we are loved by Him.

One of the ways His love gives us freedom to love others, is it deals with the selfishness within us. Selfishness is one of the greatest obstacles to having authentic relationships. When we desire a relationship because of our own selfishness, the relationship quickly dissolves once we’ve received all we can and we do not desire what they have to give us. More than likely, you’ve experienced being on the wrong end of a relationship with a person like that before and you know the frustration that exists. Yet, if you were to be truthful, you’ve been one of those friends once or twice yourself.

Chapter 13 Verses 4-8 of 1 Corinthians talks about the way God loves us. When we love others the way God loves us, there will always be individuals to love. Being loved by God and loving someone else is the greatest cure for loneliness that exists. You’ll never have to simply cope with being lonely ever again.
